From D-Log and D-Log M to cinematic Rec.709
D-Log and D-Log M are designed to give you more flexibility in post, but the flat image straight from camera is only the starting point. The goal is to first bring that footage into a balanced Rec.709 colour space, then shape the image around the light, subject and feeling of your shot.
For a fast starting point, use the dedicated D-Log to Rec.709 LUT or D-Log M to Rec.709 LUT matched to the profile you recorded. Both conversions are designed to retain highlight and shadow detail while restoring contrast and colour to the flat image.
For greater control, the Mavic 4 Pro PowerGrade gives you an adjustable grading workflow inside DaVinci Resolve. Rather than baking the look into a single LUT, you can independently refine exposure, white balance, contrast, saturation and colour to suit each shot.
Once your image is balanced, the three creative LUTs, Teal & Orange, Blue & Orange, and Warmth, give you distinct starting directions for the final look, while leaving plenty of room to push the grade into your own style.
The tools are designed to make colour grading faster, not remove the creative decisions that make the image yours.
Before you start grading
Should I use the D-Log or D-Log M conversion LUT?
Use the conversion LUT that matches the profile your footage was recorded in. D-Log and D-Log M are different recording profiles, so each has its own dedicated Rec.709 conversion in the pack.
Will the LUTs or PowerGrade finish my grade automatically?
No, and they're not designed to. Every shot responds differently depending on exposure, white balance, lighting and subject matter. These tools give you a controlled starting point; from there, refine the image for the individual shot and the look you're creating.
What's the difference between the conversion LUTs and creative LUTs?
The conversion LUTs are designed to take D-Log or D-Log M toward a balanced Rec.709 starting point. The creative LUTs are designed to shape the aesthetic from there, with Teal & Orange, Blue & Orange and Warmth colour directions.
What's the difference between a LUT and the PowerGrade?
A LUT applies a defined colour transformation to your footage. The DaVinci Resolve PowerGrade gives you an editable grading structure, allowing you to see and adjust the individual stages of the grade rather than committing to a single baked-in transformation.
Do I need to be an experienced colourist?
No. The pack is designed to give newer editors a clear starting point while retaining the control more experienced DaVinci Resolve users expect. You can keep the workflow simple or go deeper and refine the grade shot by shot.
